The A23 Peloton

So, back to school today. For me all that means is a much slower cycle in to work. Far too many stupid car drivers zigging into bus and cycle lanes and making the cyclists life a nightmare. Not that I really care for the 85%ers - My pet name for the proportion of London cyclists that jump every single red light - but it does piss you off. Not a day goes by without some twonk cutting you up.

However one highlight of back to scholl is the reforming of the A23 peloton.

The inevitable traffic build-up means that by the bottom of Brixton Hill there are in the region of 30 to 40 bike riders bunched together. Pure numbers actually provide some protection from the huge mass of steel killers and it's a very reassuring and almost exciting feeling of community, as we all hammer round Elephant and Castle. Of course it'll start raining soon and get darker and then it all becomes dangerous again, but for now I'm going to enjoy it.

Have you tried going on a Critical Mass? We have it here, its so exciting!! Especially when all the soccer moms honk you for getting in the way and the boy racers honk in support.

Ah superb. It's like flash mobbing. I've done a couple of those they're a laugh.

By the way I can't seem to register on deviant art it's being difficult and I can't leave comments as an unregistered personage.

Yea you can't leave comments if you aren't registered. See where it says " Not a member? Become a Deviant!" click there and follow the instructions, I dunno sometimes it can be slow.

i just found our critical mass meets less than a mile away. I might attend one day. scum.

Woah, anonymous, who is Scum? or is that your name?

Jane don't worry. The good Doctor Skum is an old ally. He's a tad worrying, likes Cornish cheese, believes he's seen the beast of Bodmin, but his real claim to fame is that he was the bloke that squirted Kilroy-Silk in the face with water during last year's election campaign.

He's harmless as long as you don't get locked in a small room with him too long.

You can find him here, he has an interesting way with words.

Critical Mass in London meets on the last Friday of every month under Waterloo Bridge at 6.30pm. Not as quick as the A23 peleton (one of the things I miss most about living on Brixton Hill), but usually fun enough.

Thats ok paul, you're forgiven cos you said you liked my blog. you know the point of wikipedia is that it can be edited by everyone so if you think it's wrong then just change it yourself!

Hi Jane,

Yes I like the idea of correcting some things although I think that Tony Blair's middle name really should be left as "whoopy do" - it sounds appropriate.

Its amazing that site is as reliable as it is really considering (apparently) any one can alter things.
I've never had the nerve to myself.
