Guilty pleasure

Somewhat inspired by David's thread on 5 Live I thought I ought to admit to this.

We're off on holiday tomorrow, so I dug in for a mountain of ironing last night in front of the TV and on flicking to ITV2 (don't ask), I was confronted with the opening credits to Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Now in my defence, I was 15 when this film was released and it just happens to be targetted at the very narrow demographic of spotty 15 year old boys.

However, for some reason it's stood the test of time rather well. I think it's something to do with its complete disregard for historical accuracy, unashamed steroetyping, terrible acting and absurd dialogue:

''You see, eventually your music will help put an end to war and poverty. It will align the planets and bring them into universal harmony. Allowing meaningful contact with all forms of life. From extra terrestrials to common household pets. And, it's excellent for dancing.''

The package when thrown together is outstanding and frankly the ironing became a trifle as I immersed myself in the best/worst film of all time.

Sort of completly unrelated but I've just noticed the new *sod*. Glad to see its changed.
Not saying I think its true...
just that I always needed to cough and shuffle my feet a bit, feeling a bit uncomfortable and guilty about not mentioning how the old one might seem.

I've been meaning to do it for months now. It was far too American. I'm not sure why I ever wrote it to be honest. I don't think I've ever used the term in written or spoken form, before or since.

A classic of the Stoner - Time Travel - Rock Music Saves the World - genre.

It;s a small genre off course but there you go.

I actually preferred the secondd one, mainly because of the scene where they play Twister with the Grim Reaper. Bonkers. Keanu was never more perfectly cast.

That's much better Six, thank you !

What do you mean when you find one of you Six, that one is just lovely...

I don't know if you're joking or not. If you aren't' it's Eben.

Me Joking Six - whatever next!
Its a very cute picture, and as those that know you say how similar you and little Six are...

Back to Guilty pleasures. I was about to say 'Desperate Housewives' but then again it's meant to be 'so bad its good'.
Overall I don't think I ever feel guilty about anything.
Does that make me unbelievably arrogant or simply self assured and confident?

David - never a truer word spoken:
"Keanu was never more perfectly cast."

Have to stop that thumb-sucking Six, it'll splay his front teeth....seriously, I speak from experience.

Lucy said...

Span you're right it will if it continues when the second teeth are in but most children have given up the habit by then.
"When investigators have looked at late thumb suckers for common traits, they found only one thing in common that distinguished them from other children -- a prolonged history of a strong battle with thumb sucking at an earlier age. It is striking that many well-meaning parents have actually encouraged thumb sucking by trying to forcibly take the thumb out of their children's mouths. "

Its the old adage if you want a child to do something -ban it!

...thanks Lucy..I had a battle!

P.S....nobody so far has mentioned 'air guitar'...the backbone of the film!

Span we're reliably informed that he'll be ok, because of the way he sucks his thumb. You'll notice he is fist down which means he's not pulling out the top front teeth the classic suckers pose.

you're right Six, I 've just re-enacted my pose and it's straight in (fist outwards not sidewards)...hmmm, slurp...hmmm...memories :-)

I always was a sucker!
